Contractor consulting since 1978
Skip Schiappa started a roofing and siding company in 1978 and still runs it. ERS Consult gives contractors of every trade the pricing, contracts, collections and hiring systems that turn a busy company into a profitable one.
Who we work with
Contractors call ERS Consult when the work is there but the money, the paperwork or the people are not keeping up. Our brand has stayed the same for decades while the services expanded.

The three that cost you the most
They are short on price, short on cash and stuck on the job site. Those three are where every engagement starts.
When you cannot explain your number, you have to discount it. We rebuild pricing and presentation so you win work at your price instead of the low one.
Slow payers, non-payers and a contract that will not back you up. We put a real contract and a collection process behind every job you sell.
Nothing gets bid, sold or supervised without you. We install the supervisor, estimator and salesperson roles that let the company run when you are not there.
Consulting areas
Pick the one that is bleeding right now. Most owners start with pricing or collections, then move down the list.
Build your real cost of doing business into every estimate, then present it so the customer buys value instead of shopping the price.
A universal agreement for everyday work: scope, payment terms, change orders and the language that protects you when a job goes sideways.
Deposits, draw schedules and a collection sequence that works on slow-paying homeowners, GCs and property managers without lawyering up.
Turn past customers, referral sources and your own reputation into steady work, so you are not renting leads at $60 to $80 a shot.
Classifications, audits and experience rating explained in plain language, so the biggest line item on your overhead stops being a mystery.
Who to hire first, what to pay them, how to hand off work and how to hold them to it once they are in the seat.
Sub agreements, insurance requirements and quality standards so subbed-out work still comes back with your name on it intact.
What to reinvest, what to keep and how to grow into commercial and industrial work without outrunning your cash.

About Skip Schiappa
Skip started Cape Cod Roofing and Siding in 1978 and built it into a company that handles residential, commercial and industrial work as exterior building envelope experts. Everything he teaches came out of running that business through good markets and bad ones.
He started ERS Consult because the advice contractors get is almost never written for a contractor. No matter what trade you are in, starting, running and growing the business is the same job, and it is the part nobody trained you for.
“Our brand remains the same while our services have expanded. I am still here to serve you.”
Skip Schiappa, ERS Consult, Inc.
Insurance, legal & expert witness
ERS Consult supports insurance professionals, attorneys, facility managers and property managers who need a working contractor's read on exterior construction: roofing, siding and water intrusion.

How it works
Tell Skip your trade, your size and the one thing that is hurting most right now. No script, no sales team.
Pricing, overhead, receivables, payroll and the jobs you lost. This is where the actual problem usually turns up.
You leave with specific changes to make this week, not a binder. Pricing and collections usually move first.
Ongoing consulting, workshops for your team, or help building the estimator and supervisor roles. Your call.
